[ Здравствуйте, товарищ ! ]
[ I'm a pseudomorph from Calcite after Ikaite ]
[ I'm from Russia. More specific from Kandalaksha in the south of the Kola peninsula ]
[ There are a lot of me down the southcoast in the Tersky terrane sandstone, but still I'm special... ]
[ Now you are here, take a vodka, sit down and I will explain a little more... ]

Pseudomorph from Calcite after Ikaite" is a very long name, always
needs explanation, and does not fit on a creditcard, so people usually
call me "Thinolite" or "Glendonite". It's wrong of course, but much
more easy... It's a strange thing with me. When I'm under water and the
water is under 4 °C cold, then I'm fine and I feel like an
Ikaite. Would you feel good in 4 °C water? Bet for a vodka you won't? He he he, I do ! But when I'm above water and/or the water is warmer than 4 °C
than I turn into Calcite. No way to reverse that process though, so
when that happened to me it turned me into Calcite permanently! So, I
used to be very rare and special, and now I'm very common (but still
special). Special also because I have a very interesting history. I was
made in a laboratory in 1831 by the French chemist Pelouze before I was
found in nature... Only in 1963 I was found by the Danish mineralogist
Hans Pauly in my natural habitat in the cold water of the Ika fjord
near Ivittuut in Greenland. Under water I look very different however ;
there I form meter-large stalactites ]
[ In my picture above I look much more handsome don't I ? ]
